ALERT: Due to the shutdown of the federal government, the Gateway Arch and Old Courthouse, which are part of the National Park Service, are closed. They will resume operations during regularly scheduled hours as soon as the government re-opens. Ticketing and tram operations at the Gateway Arch and ticketing operations at the Old Courthouse are also closed. If you have purchased a scheduled tram ride to the top or Arch entry-only ticket during this time, your ticket price will be refunded as soon as possible. Other Gateway Arch Experience activities such as the Riverboats at the Gateway Arch and Gateway Helicopter Tours, which are NOT part of the National Park Service, are currently closed for the season. Women’s History Month Events Take Over Arch, OCH in March

elizabeth-keckley.gifWomen’s History Month kicks of March 1, and Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is spotlighting the historic contributions of women who shaped the history of the United States with free programs all month long.

“Do You Know Any Women Like These?” special exhibit will on display in the Museum of Westward Expansion and depicts how 19th-century women of the American Frontier embodied similar characteristics to those of today’s women. Also, visitors can take part in a special scavenger hunt, where they will explore history and search for clues about women in the west in the Museum of Westward Expansion. All are welcome to participate, and scavenger hunt programs are available at the information desk.

Other special film series and ranger programs include:

Women’s History Month Film Series at the Museum of Westward Expansion: Each of the following films will be shown in the special exhibits gallery. Films run continuously from 9:15 am to 5:30 pm.

  • March 1-7: Dreams of Equality (This film will also show all month at the Old Courthouse at the bottom of every hour.)
  • March 8-14: Eleanor Roosevelt, Close to Home
  • March 15-21: The Maggie Lena Walker Story
  • March 22-30: Home Front Heroes

Women’s History Month Ranger Weekend Programs

  • 11:15 am and 3:15 pm, Saturdays and Sundays at the Museum of Westward Expansion: “Women of the West” Ranger Talk
  • 3 pm, Saturdays and Sundays at the Old Courthouse: Mock Trials: “Right to Vote: Virginia Minor v. Happersett” or “Segregation Laws in the 1880s: Williams v. Bellefontaine”
