ALERT: The Gateway Arch Ticketing & Visitor Center has relocated to the Old Courthouse at 11 N. 4th Street. The walking distance between the Old Courthouse and the Arch entrance at the SOUTH leg is approximately 0.3 miles (7 minutes of average walking time). EACH guest planning to enter the Gateway Arch will be required to have EITHER a Journey to the Top ticket or an Arch Entry-Only ticket to be allowed access to the facility.  Tram tickets will sell out early and often - advance tickets are strongly recommended.

Please Note: The Museum of Westward Expansion, located under the Gateway Arch is closed for significant renovations. Certain artifacts from the Museum are on display in exhibit galleries at the Old Courthouse.

WHAT: Jefferson National Expansion Memorial will offer free programs and workshops designed to fulfill requirements for arrow points, achievements and Scout badges throughout 2015. Programs include user-friendly leader activity guides with suggested pre- and post-visit activities to meet badge requirements.
“Our Boy Scout badge programs and workshops focus on history and citizenship,” says Ann Honious, Chief, Museum Services and Interpretation, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. ”Scouts can learn about the events related to America’s westward expansion and St. Louis history in the various programs the park offers.”

2015 Boy Scouts Badge Programs
Facilitated by National Park Service rangers, all programs are approximately one hour long. A 30-day advanced reservation and a group of at least six Scouts (maximum of 30) is required to book a program. Some programs have a limited capacity on specific dates, and others can be scheduled per the group’s availability.

  • Tiger Cubs
    • Cooperation on the Trail: Travel west in a wagon over prairies, rivers and mountains, and learn what life was like for 19th-century families. Offered year-round except in February.
    • Fun and Games: Learn about the lives and pastimes of nineteenth century boys and girls. Scouts will make their own pioneer toy. Dates TBA.
  • Wolf Cubs
    • Native American Lore—Plains Indians: Explore the culture of the Plains Indians. Scouts will take part in sign language and picture-writing activities. Addresses Wolf Cub Scout Elective 10. Offered year-round except in February.
  • Wolf & Bear Cubs
    • Native American Life—Illini and Osage Indians: Investigate the culture of the Illini and Osage Indians of the woodland areas of the Mississippi Valley in comparison to the Plains Indians. Addresses Wolf Cub Scout Elective 10a and Bear Cub Scout Elective 24. Offered year-round except in February.
  • Webelos
    • Scholars: Over the years, education has taken many forms. Find out how 19th- and 20th-century children learned, and compare it to your own experience. Offered year-round.


2015 Boy Scouts Merit Workshops
These workshops meet specific badge requirements and are scheduled on varying days throughout the year.

  • Law Merit Badge: Investigate the judicial system and its important role in our society. Scouts re-enact trials in historic courtrooms and debate historic and contemporary issues. Offered Mon., June 8 and Mon,, Aug. 10; 9am-1pm.
  • Railroading Merit Badge: Daylong workshop that allows Scouts to travel from St. Louis to Springfield, Ill., aboard an Amtrak train, accompanied by staff members from Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. Offered Tues., Jun. 9 and Tues., Aug. 4; 6am-3pm. Program fee required.
