ALERT: The Gateway Arch Ticketing & Visitor Center has relocated to the Old Courthouse at 11 N. 4th Street. The walking distance between the Old Courthouse and the Arch entrance at the SOUTH leg is approximately 0.3 miles (7 minutes of average walking time). EACH guest planning to enter the Gateway Arch will be required to have EITHER a Journey to the Top ticket or an Arch Entry-Only ticket to be allowed access to the facility.  Tram tickets will sell out early and often - advance tickets are strongly recommended.

Please Note: The Museum of Westward Expansion, located under the Gateway Arch is closed for significant renovations. Certain artifacts from the Museum are on display in exhibit galleries at the Old Courthouse.


Old Courthouse Hosts George Washington’s Birthday Ball

WHAT: On Saturday, February 20, the National Park Service marks George Washington’s birthday with an authentic birthday celebration from 1856 that includes live music and an interactive dance workshop.

This event is free and open to all ages.

“George Washington played such an important role in American history, from leading the Continental army as Commander in Chief during the Revolutionary War to serving as our nation’s first president,” says Rhonda Schier, Chief of Museum Services and Interpretation at Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. “This ball honors Washington and his legacy. We invite visitors and park neighbors of all ages to the Old Courthouse to celebrate Washington’s birthday with this very special party in the style of an 1856 St. Louis celebration.”

From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Deborah Hyland will lead a dance workshop and teach popular dance steps of 1856. She will call the movements for the dancers during the ball, which is from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The Independent Silver Band will perform live from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cookies and hot cider will be served. Historical dress is not required to participate.
