Get Outdoors, Yoga and Family Junior Ranger Programs Highlight Season’s Events
WHAT: Get ready for a chock-full of summer fun! Jefferson National Expansion Memorial is set to host new and returning events at the Old Courthouse, Arch and Gateway Arch Grounds this summer. And beginning Memorial Day weekend, the Arch will operate in extended hours of 8 am to 10 pm daily.
“We are thrilled to host returning summer favorites such as daily, ranger-led walking tours and the Family Junior Ranger program, as well as introduce Flicks and Foodiesa classic-movie night under the Arch,” said Ann Honious, Chief, Museum Services and Interpretation, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Recurring summer programs will repeat as scheduled until further notice. As a reminder, Journey to the Top tram rides will continue to be offered throughout CityArchRiver 2015 construction, and the Museum of Westward Expansion will remain open until further notice.
PARKING AND ROAD CLOSURES: Parking is available at the Gateway Arch Parking Garage, located at 200 Washington Avenue. Visitors are encouraged to check www.gatewayarch.com/directions before heading to their event for the most up-to-date information on road detours and construction surrounding the Arch grounds.

Yoga at the Gateway Arch: Saturdays; 9 am at the Arch Grounds
The Arch grounds host free one-hour outdoor yoga sessions led by experienced yoga instructors from South City YMCA and hosted by the National Park Service. RSVP at http://ticketsforthearch.com and receive free parking at the Arch Parking Garage.
Flicks and Foodies: May 24 and June 21; 7 pm at the Arch Grounds
Head down to the Arch grounds for live music, food trucks and an action-packed classic western (rated PG) screening underneath the Arch at sunset. Visit Jefferson National Expansion Memorial’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/gatewayarchnps) for movie titles and more information.
1780 British Attack on St. Louis: May 24; 10 am-4 pm at the South Leg of the Arch
Experience history with this free program of the Revolutionary War-era Battle of St. Louis, in which the British and their Indian allies unsuccessfully attacked St. Louis. Living history volunteers in 18th-century attire will give musket and cannon firing demonstrations, and tell of St. Louis’ participation in the American Revolution.
Family Junior Ranger Program: Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 29 through June 26; 10 to 11:30 am
Kids ages 3-12 (and their parents!) are welcome at this free, interactive Junior Ranger experience. Kids will earn a Junior Ranger Badge upon completion. Reservations are required by calling 877-982-1410.
- May 29 and June 12: Park Quest (Arch Grounds): Explore the Arch grounds and search for hidden clues.
- June 3 and 19: Westward Ho! (Museum of Westward Expansion): Discover the stories of pioneers and native people through games and activities.
- June 5 and 24: Courthouse Adventure (OCH): Explore the Old Courthouse and learn about its history.
- June 10 and 26: Games of Long Ago (Arch Grounds): Discover and play children’s games of the 1800s.
- June 17: Arch Reflections (Arch Grounds): Reflect on the unique architectural aspects of the Arch from a variety of perspectives using pencil, ink, watercolors and a notebook.
Ranger-Led Walking Tours: Daily, beginning May 31; 10:30 to 11:30 am at the Arch Grounds
Meet at the Arch’s north leg for a free guided walking tour featuring facts about the park, the building of the Arch, colonial St. Louis and the Mississippi River. Groups are encouraged to RSVP by calling 877-982-1410.
Gateway to the Stars “Cahokia Mounds: America’s First City”: Friday, June 13; 7:30 pm at the Arch
Meet in the Odyssey Theater inside the Arch Visitor Center to hear Bill Iseminger, assistant manager at Cahokia Mounds Historic Site, discuss the astronomy and culture of the Cahokia people. Pending clear skies, telescope viewing led by the St. Louis Astronomical Society on the Arch grounds will follow. Call 314-655-1750, ext. 472 to check weather conditions the afternoon of the program.
Get Outdoors at the Gateway Arch: Saturday, June 14; 9 am to 2 pm at the Arch Grounds
Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day at the Gateway Arch with a variety of free outdoor activities for all ages, including a rock climbing wall, orienteering, geocaching, fitness sessions, pioneer activities, canoe relays, live music, demonstrations by the St. Louis County Amateur Radio Emergency Service and much more!
