GO WILD for Our National Parks with National Park Week!
11 April 2014
The Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial It’s no secret: We heart our national parks!
So much, in fact, that there is an entire week dedicated to celebrating them and what they mean to the United States. So April 19-27, we ask you to GO WILD for our national parks (there are more than 400, mind you!) with National Park Week!
As you know, the Gateway Arch and Old Courthouse make up Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, which honors the rich history of westward expansion and St. Louis’ own history of growth and change. The Arch and Old Courthouse are hosting events all week long. Will you join us in celebrating?
April 19 and 20 are designated fee-free days, which means you can enjoy $3 off an adult ticket for the Journey to the Top tram ride OR movie!
Also on April 19 (10 am to 2 pm): Our park rangers share their memories of working in our nation’s parks. Listen as Ranger Doug Harding shares his passion for living history, or hear Ranger Roy Gillyon’s story about working as a park guide at the Arch and Old Courthouse between 1965 and 1971, when the Arch was a young landmark.
On April 26, the Arch celebrates Junior Ranger Day with Camp In’ Under the Arch from 1-4 pm in the Arch Visitor Center. Kids can partake in a mock “camp in” where they can set up tents, hear stories and sing songs. In addition, they’ll learn about Midwest tree species and Native American life in the west. Best of all, participants will earn a special Junior Ranger Day patch upon completion of the day’s events.
And all week long, enjoy various national park films screening at the Old Courthouse and the Arch. Kids can challenge themselves to a Civil War trading card game and pose for photos with rangers.
(Did we mention all these events are free?) More info here.
