Hip-Hop Fusion pioneers and Saint Louis natives, iLLPHONiCS, have played all over the region and the country for well over a decade. Describing their live performances as a “360 Experience,” the group strives to create shows in local environments with original music that are unique but also highlight the rich history of Saint Louis. What better place than the Saint Louis riverfront to carry on the tradition?
From the creation of the Blues in the Lower Mississippi Delta, which migrated to Saint Louis with legendary players to the beginnings of Jazz in the early 1900s when a young Louis Armstrong performed with Fate Marable’s Band on river steamboats traversing from New Orleans to Saint Louis, the Mississippi River was both a main artery of commerce in America and also integral in the formation of Saint Louis and American music.
In celebration of this storied history and their forthcoming 7th full release album titled Moonglow, iLLPHONiCS is partnering with Riverboats at the Gateway Arch from April to June, to bring you three groundbreaking shows, two on the dock and one on the Becky Thatcher. “Moonglow by the River” will mix the music of the iLLPHONiCS and other local acts with the ambiance and nostalgia of the mighty Mississippi River. The goal is to invoke the spirit of our vibrant music history and celebrate our current music scene, all while activating our beautiful riverfront.
