Detour Alert! Chestnut and Market Street Bridges to Undergo Demolition June 6-8
As part of the Park Over the Highway Project, the Chestnut and Market Street bridges will be demolished for reconstruction beginning Friday evening, June 6. With this demolition, I-44 downtown between Walnut and Pine Streets will close after the evening rush hour on June 6 and reopen before morning rush hour on Monday, June 9.
The detour for those traveling on I-44 East/I-55 North (coming from the south) during this time will be via a single lane on northbound Memorial Drive, via exit 291B – Walnut Street. Click here for special I-44 detour directions during this closure.
The remainder of the directions listed at www.gatewayarch.com/directions will remain throughout this interstate closure.
*Please note: The Eads Bridge will be closed to traffic during this time frame to allow for traffic flow along the northbound Memorial Drive detour route.
Pine Street Bridge Pedestrian Route Changes
Starting Friday, June 6 through June 9 (and intermittently throughout the month), the Pine Street Bridge will not be available as a pedestrian entrance into the Arch Grounds. Pedestrians will still be able to enter the park via:
Walnut Street Bridge Entrance
Gateway Arch Parking Garage
Grand Staircase from Leonor K. Sullivan Blvd. (not wheelchair accessible)
Be on the lookout for new sidewalk stencils to be in place by mid-June to help direct pedestrians to park entrances. Click here to view the pedestrian map!
