May 24th: A Very Busy Saturday at the Arch Grounds!
19 May 2014
Fitness, film, and fun OH, MY! Saturday, May 24 is just around the corner, and we are excited to kick off summer with a day full of special eventsincluding the introduction of classic movie nights at the Arch.
For starters, beginning May 24, the Arch will begin operating in its summer hours of 8 am to 10 pm daily.
Yoga, Yoga, Yoga! At 9 am, grab your yoga mat or towel, and head to the Arch grounds for Yoga at the Arch! A returning favorite, you’re invited to enjoy free YMCA-led yoga sessions within the sweeping oasis of the Gateway Arch Grounds.
And even better? If you RSVP your spot in the session athttp://ticketsforthearch.com, you’ll receive free parking at the Gateway Arch Parking Garage.
Revolutionary War Living History Program At 10 am, the Arch grounds will travel back in time (to the year 1780, to be exact!), and commemorate the historic Revolutionary War battle that took place on the present-day park grounds in which more than 2,000 American Indians from the Great Lakes, supported by the British in Canada, travelled down the Mississippi River and attacked the then-Spanish village of St. Louis.
Living-history volunteers in 18th-century attire will perform musket- and cannon-firing demonstrations until 4 pm, and share the story of St. Louis’ role in the American Revolution.
Get Your Film Fix at Flicks and Foodies That night, the Arch grounds hosts Flicks and Foodies, an outdoor classic-movie night. Round up your friends, family (and a few blankets!) and head to the Arch grounds for live music entertainment from Letter to Memphis and food trucks, starting at 7pm. Then enjoy “The Outlaw Josey Wales,” starring Clint Eastwood, showing on the big screen underneath the Arch at sunset.
And if you’re in the mood for a different kind of Gateway Arch Experience, just remember: Journey to the Top tram rides are offered all day, everyday. Daily, one-hour sightseeing cruises aboard the Gateway Arch Riverboats are also offered throughout the day, and a Skyline Dinner Cruise will set sail at 7 that evening.
