The Gateway to Fitness

Summer is finally here, and we have the perfect way in which you can enjoy the warm weather: Instead of sweating it out in a gym, take it from others who’ve exercised on the Arch grounds! Here are a few ways to do so:
- Get a Leg Up with the Grand Staircase The Arch’s Grand Staircase is great for leg exercises, sprints and more. Just make sure the stairs are clear of walkers before you ascend or descend. You can even mimic the famous “Rocky Run” ‘ la Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Balboa, as many have done before with the Grand Staircase. (If you haven’t seen the iconic scene, check it out below.)
- Family, Fun and Fitness Exercising with the family is always a great option. Gather the gang and get to the park for a family game of Frisbee or catch. Makes for great family bonding and encourages teamwork!
- “Run, Forrest, Run!” Check out this recent story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and include the park’s trails in your daily run. (But unlike Forrest’s 24/7 journey across the country, no nighttime running in the park, please.)
- Improve Your Strength and Flexibility If you’re looking for a more peaceful exercise, try weekly yoga at the park at 9am on Saturdays. Free yoga while experiencing a storied piece of St. Louis? Sounds like a wonderful way to start your Saturday!
